JAZZ

Jazz represents our popular culture and its forever changing. Today, jazz dance is influenced by pop music and can be seen in concerts and video clips for artists such as Kylie Minogue, Madonna, Britney Spears and movies such as Fame and Mama Mia. Jazz dance enhances flexibility, movement and fitness levels. Students at Hunter Urban Dance Studio study the ADV syllabus from beginners - major levels and may undertake examinations if they wish.

CLASSICAL BALLET

Classical Ballet is characterized by a standard vocabulary of steps, poses, and graceful movements including pointed feet, rising, jumping, stretching and spinning. It is strengthening, disciplined and stylized.
Classical ballet is the foundation of the majority of dance styles. Classical Ballet levels also include National Character dancing. Students at Hunter Urban Dance learn the ADV Classical Ballet syllabus from beginners - majors levels and are able to take part in examinations in this syllabus

HIP HOP

Hip Hop is a street style dance originating from the Bronx in New York City in the 1970s. Constantly evolving, it is a free, funky and soulful expression of movement used by artists such as Beyonce Knowles, Kanye West, Justin Timberlake and Flo Rida.

LYRICAL & CONTEMPORARY

Our Lyrical / Contemporary classes are a blend of ballet and modern dance. These classes build a strong centre and combine precision leg work with fluidity of the torso. Contemporary dance encourages self expression, natural movement and personal interpretation. Hunter Urban Dance Studio students study the ATOD Contemporary syllabus as well as open movement choreography designed by our teachers.

TAP

Tap for aspiring Fred Astaires, Tap Dogs and Billy Elliots. A combination of old and modern tap styles seen in musical theatre shows such as Tivoli, 42nd St and Hot Shoe Shuffle. HUDS teaches the Glenn Wood Tap syllabus to learn the foundations of tap dancing and associated steps all whilst having lots of fun and making lots of noise! Examinations are available in the GWT syllabus.

CHEERLEADING

Cheerleading is a very athletic style incorporating precision movements, gymnastics, stunts, tumbles, tosses and lifts. It is high energy, strengthening, increases flexibility all in a fun team environment. Hunter Urban Dance Studio follows the AASCF and IASF rules and guidelines for cheerleading. Our coaches are accredited from Levels 1-3. Our cheerleading program will also see the introduction of CheerSport grades for 2020.

PETITE PERFORMERS

Petite Performers classes not only teach some awesome dance moves but they help your child gain self confidence and learn so much about themselves and the world around them. This class is perfect for building new friendships, enhancing otor skills and physical fitness, becoming spatially aware and stimulating listening skills through themed classes combining techniques from classical ballet and jazz.

YOU & ME

You & Me is a great class for our 1.5-3 year olds. We use music they know and love while learning beginner dance moves with a ballet or jazz basis with mum. We learn all about warming up, stretching, nursery rhymes, role playing and obstacle courses to foster a love for dance and enhance gross motor skills. There is no performance commitment for this class. Please note this is not a class that parents are able to just sit and watch, this class is for full parental involvement which works great to help encourage bonding with your little one.

COMPETITIVE CHEER & DANCE

At HUDS we are proud to be able to give students the opportunity to perform competitively at both eisteddfods and competitions. Our teams have been very successful with numerous awards and titles including State and National Champions in Jazz, Lyrical / Contemporary and Hip Hop, International Bid Winners for Cheer, 1st runner's up for Pom along with multi award winning Musical Theatre and Classical Ballet choreography having received numerous first placings.
Competitive classes take commitment and passion, all competitive students are encouraged to work hard and fulfil their potential in a friendly team (and friendship) building environment. There is a team available for every one - join and watch your child's confidence soar!

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private Lessons are available for individual students to work on anything they may need help with from their classes, to work on exam work, choreography for solo / duos / trios to perform at school functions  community eveor at eisteddfods. Private lessons are tailored to the needs and aspirations of the student/s in that class

ACRODANCE

 Acrodance classes are open to all students to improve their skills in acrobatics and tumbling including cartwheel, roundoffs, handstands, walkovers, handsprings and more. The class is focused on technical skill development through strength and conditioning as well as foundation of each skill set. We have both beginner and intermediate skill classes available.

MUSICAL THEATRE & BROADWAY

This class is for those that love not only dancing but to act and sing aswell. Incorporating the triple threat elements of song, dance and drama this is a fun class to explore a variety of musicals and genres from past to present.

DREAM DANCE KREW

This class has been developed specifically for students with additional needs. HUDS has a strong belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to dance and be a part of something special. It doesn’t matter if you are in a wheel chair or have different levels of ability. This class is great to be able to socialize, make new friends, move to music and just have fun. Dance is Therapy no matter who you are!  Carers are also welcome to stay and watch these classes

ACCELER8

This is a new class to our timetable and will run in subject blocks of approximately 4 weeks each. Each block has a different area of dance and performance that students will work on. Students should take away and practice their learnings at home and in other classes they participate in. Areas of exploration include but are not limited to – full body dancer workouts as used by the NYC Ballet, Progressions, Improvisation skills, Choreography skills, Audition Preparation, Cultural Dance, Progressive Ballet Technique, Turns, Leaps & Jumps and more. These classes will be taught by our studio Principal and at times will include Guest Teachers.

ADULT CLASSES

We have a range of dance classes catered for our adults including Adult Tap, Vixen Burlesque and our Open Dance Team. 
Adult Tap will cater for those from beginner to advanced and cover a wide variety of different tap styles and steps.
Vixen Burlesque is perfect for anyone wishing to get a full body workout and learn the sultry art of burlesque. This class is a fusion of broadway jazz and traditional burlesque exploring different movements, accents of music and props such as chairs, feather fans etc. This class is appropriate for ages 17+ from beginners to advanced.
