Heading Back into the Studio

Well it’s that time of year again where we start preparing for back to school, back to work if you haven’t started already and, most importantly, (to us anyway..) back to dance!

Starting a new year of dance is exciting and daunting all at once, but there’s a few different things that you can do to make it as seamless a transition as possible. Here’s a few things that can help you get back into the swing of things before and during your first few weeks at dance:

Stretch and strengthen

Over the holidays most students tend to reduce the amount of stretching and exercising they do at home. However, these are both extremely important leading up to your first classes as this will aid in conditioning your body for your dance classes for the week. Stretching daily and working on building your strength will not only help with injury prevention, but it will also provide you with a strong and flexible foundation to start learning new combinations and steps.

Set realistic expectations

We all want to be able to come back to class after the holidays and keep progressing as if we had no time off at all – but for most of us that’s usually not possible. It’s ok to have lost a bit of flexibility, strength, and skill during your time off! Just make sure you go easy on yourself, and you’ll be able to get back up to speed in no time.

Pack your bag the night before

There’s nothing worse than showing up to your dance class unprepared on your first day! Make sure you pack your bag and organise your uniform the night before so you’re all ready to head to class the next day. Not sure what to pack in your dance bag? Here’s some of our must-haves:

– Drink bottle

– Dance shoes appropriate for each dance style

– Uniform (if you don’t have one yet that’s ok! Just make sure you wear something that is comfortable for you to dance in)

– Hairbrush and extra hair ties

– Band-aids (dancing in new shoes can often lead to blisters!)

– Deodorant

Get excited!

It’s a whole new dance year filled with loads of new opportunities – get excited! Let’s make this year YOUR year! We can’t wait to see you all soon! HUDS Team x
